          Financial Aid

Ivy League caliber, state school price.

As a public university, William & Mary works hard to keep the cost of our exceptional education affordable, and we commit our resources to need-based aid.

If you have what it takes to be a William & Mary student, the Financial Aid Office will use all available aid sources to help meet as much of your need as possible. Through a combination of financial aid options - including grants, loans, and Federal Work-Study - we will make every effort to keep your loan debt as low as possible.

We typically meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for in-state students, and through the William & Mary Promise, implemented in 2013, we reduced loans and increased grants for entering Virginians. Qualifying out-of-state students may receive up to 25% of their full cost of attendance in grant aid.

All returning students need to complete the FAFSA every year. Our federal school code is 003705. Freshman and transfer applicants must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for federal financial aid. Freshman and transfer applicants also must complete the CSS Profile (school code 5115) to receive any additional need-based financial aid.

Please note that consideration for merit scholarships does not require the submission of either the FAFSA or CSS Profile.

The FAFSA for 2021 - 22 will be available for students to file on October 1, 2020. However be aware, that you are not required to file this early, as our aid deadlines are quite a bit later than this first availability date. Please refer to our announcement on priority filing dates for further information.

If you are a new or current student and need assistance in applying for your loans, we suggest that you start at our Loan Application page.
